GM offers buyouts to 74,000

Auto giant aims to replace much of U.S. workforce with lower-paid new hires - dangles $140,000 buyouts to UAW members to stem North American losses.
In an effort to shave ongoing losses, General Motors offered lucrative buyouts to 74,000 employees - its entire U.S. hourly workforce.

The goal is not to reduce headcount but rather to bring in new workers at a lower cost.
I note that the article also carefully avoids mentioning what country the new workers will be working in. Or more properly, it avoids even asking such a question. All part of CNN's new "corporate press release dressed up as journalism" program.

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I used to have:
"I lost my job to an underpaid foreign worker, and now neither of us can afford the company product."
