Study finds universal health care would cost less than bailoutsSix times less. For far less than what we've already paid out to "save" the big engines of commerce, we could have had 100% health care coverage, saved hundreds of thousands of lives, and reduced stress on everyone who's struggling with burdens related to insurance, income, or illness. Yet for decades, the fat cats have been lying to us, claiming we can't afford Universal Health Care. Can't afford to pay X$ to help 90% of Americans, but suddenly we can afford to pay 6X$ to line the pockets of 5% of Americans. WTF?
The biggest obstacle to an enhanced national health care system wouldn't be money, a study conducted by the Institute for Health and Socio-economic Policy found. The transformation of America's current health care system into a single-payer 'Medicare for all' system could cost six times less than the bank bailouts.
I can't honestly say I'm surprised.
The closing statement of the article did amuse me, though, with it's quaint and polite way of hinting at the conflict to come.
The debate over which health care system is best for America will almost certainly intensify in the coming weeks.Debate? I tend to think of a debate was a structured discussion between two points of view, setting aside pettiness to work to make progress on an issue. Casting it as a debate colors it as if there's defensible points of view on both sides. We all know that's a bunch of BS. This ain't no debate, not even in the Presidential sense. It's not an argument either - I dare say it's quite possibly preamble to open Class War.
- 55% of America wants Universal Health Care. It not only protects them, it's the humane thing to do.
- 40% of America is apathetic - they don't necessarily care if health coverage is Universal, as long as their ass is covered and it doesn't cost them more money than their insurance already does.
- 5% of the Country is rich fucking bastards who actively wish the rest of us would die so they could lay claim to our share of the money, land, and chemotherapy drugs. The only argument they have to fall back on, "it's against our glorious free-market system", is just a thick and crusty layer of 70-year-old-bullshit, and everyone knows it. Maybe a year ago we could swallow that particular horsepill, but nowadays we all know the free market doesn't work for anything other than being a no-longer-effective smokescreen for the modern-day Rail Barons.
