The city is doing a small public works project in my neighborhood. The end state it's achieving is to move the bus stops so they're all more than 200 feet from the nearest bank.
I figured it was to keep large groups from congregating in front of banks. During Great Depression I, there were runs on banks that turned into hysterical (in the non-funny sense) riots.
Then again, the height / hey day of bank robbing was during the 30s. Perhaps they're just anticipating an upswing, and want to move bystanders out of the way and reduce the ability to "case" a bank while pretending to wait for a bus.
Either way, they moved the bus-stop to the midpoint between three banks, a couple hundred feet (and at least one busy intersection) from any of them, instead of being five feet in front of the one as it had been.
I'm suddenly envisioning the scene from serenity when they open the small safe and find nothing in it, only to discover the underground vault...
And at the same time, an episode of America's Dumbest Criminals in which a man robbed a bank, hopped the quickest bus and got on wearing a ski mask and holding sacks of money that might as well have had "$$$" printed on them.
Years of fascination and study with spanish have me nearly snickering at my word verification of "gatio." at first glance i missed the "i" and was thinking of a neighborhood cat that likes to bring his master "gifts" that aren't entirely dead yet.

Well, it will certainly slow down those people who rob banks and then use public transportation.
Or does that only happen in Albuquerque?

A happy whiskey weekend to you all.
