New Firefox extension turns Amazon.com into illegal free-for-allLike stated, I loves me pirated booty. I will not be downloading this extension, however.
A new Firefox extension called Pirates of the Amazon lets users download movies, games, TV shows, and MP3s free of charge by cross referencing Amazon's product pages with torrent files from the Pirate Bay.
If the content can be found on the Pirate Bay's search index it shows up as a 'Download 4 Free' link on the top of the Amazon product page. This links directly to the hosted .torrent tracker file, letting the user avoid having to make a purchase from Amazon in place of acquiring it illegally via BitTorrent.
If I want to buy something from Amazon, I will peruse their site and purchase it. If I want some pirated goodies I'll sail the torrential seas in search of my wares.
If I am walking into my local record shop to purchase an album or two, it is because I want to pay for the album, support the local business, support the band, and have no reason to completely fuck over the label. If someone were to come up to me in the store and offer to give me a burned copy of the same album free of charge, I would decline. I would also not consider shop lifting it. I used to shop lift from Wal-Mart, but I can't even bring myself to set foot in one, not even for the purpose of stealing. I'd rather pay for something than set foot in one of those portals to the demon dimensions.
But that's me. Perhaps someone out there enjoys browsing through Amazon's collections and having a buccaneer extension constantly reminding them that there is an alternative to cash draining consumer culture. Or maybe someone out there is sick of having to go into a Wal-Mart just to steal music and needs help turning over a new leaf.
