Sarcasm Seen as Evolutionary Survival SkillIt never delivered the goods. It rambled, tried to be funny, then completely failed to make the grade. You can imagine my dissapointment when I realized that instead of being scientifically justified in my behavior that at the root of it all, I'm still just an asshole.
Sarcasm, then, is a verbal hammer that connects people in both a negative and positive way. We know that sense of humor is important to relationships; if someone doesn't get your jokes, they aren't likely to be your friend (or at least that's my bottom line about friendship). Sarcasm is simply humor's dark side, and it would be just as disconcerting if a friend didn't get your snide remarks.
Thanks a lot.

Wow. That's some hard science.
Here's another very scientific article about the subject.

Ooo...
MRI!
That's all sciencey and shit.
Dr. J. Arthur Roth's exhaustive study of the subject has determined that sarcasm is a direct result of human's evolving to the point where they actually take themselves seriously at which time others like to point out that they do not in fact have all the answers but choose to do so in a manner that mockingly reinforces the aforementioned behavior. And he's a Doctor!
Dude, are you being sarcastic?
I don't even know anymore.
