Narwhalathon

There's this restaurant I like, called Beth's Cafe. The walls are covered with sheets of paper, and if you don't know what to expect, it's a little freaky the first time you walk in. But the food is good, and priced decently (for Seattle), and the staff are awesome. It's a fun place to visit, even if you don't take part in the wall-drawing.

And sometimes, you'll spot something special on the walls.

It's hard to read at this resolution, but the original says "On a yearly basis, Narwhals try to brush their horns, but the can't reach it. ...yet they still smile."

Some of you know about my Narwhal fascination. (It's all Starr's fault.)
So, when I spied that, I just had to respond.

I grabbed some paper and crayons, and I drew this:

"Parachuting Narwhals are the best!"
...and then I realized that creator of the original drawing might think I was trying to compete or criticize...

So I added a tail banner that says "Narwhal Solidarity Front" and the little writing at the bottom saying roughly "all Narwhal's are cool, so we should all draw Narwhals at Beth's."

What can I say? It caught on.

Last time I counted, there were 14 Narwhal drawings (as in 14 sheets of paper with Narwhals on them) other than my own.

Most are far more elaborate than my humble little scribble.

In case you can't make it out, the quartered one says "Andy Narwhal's Masterpiece".

Those Narwhals sure don't pull any punches. "Sex = Conflict"

You can't tell from this picture, but if memory serves correctly, the eagle on the mid-left is carrying a dead Narwhal.

Wallingford is the name of a neighborhood not far from the restaurant.

That one in the bottom says "Another Brick In The Narwhal"

Two recent quick additions of my own, since the above pictures were taken:

Emergency Narwhalectomy
Tour De Narwhal

I've tried to stick with a minimalist / cartoony style, so that I'm not tempted to ignore dinner conversation too much.

If you look closely, you'll find other Narwhals in my recent artwork. The meme's got me by the horn/tooth.
