That man can delegate like nobody's business!

Look, up in the sky! It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a superdelegate!

Democrats fear superdelegates could overrule voters

...

Devine was part of the first campaign to benefit from the roles of superdelegates -- that of former Vice President Walter Mondale in 1984.

Oh yeah, Mondale. That was the bright shining moment of the Democratic party right there. I love the way he beat Nixon in the first televised debates, guided our country through three terms and both world wars, and then went on to free the slaves. However, it was a real shame when he contracted polio in Dealey Plaza and Geraldine Ferarro had to ride to Boston alone to tell everyone the British were coming. Despite that minor blemish, Mondale did it all. Thank god we had such super superdelegates to put him on the ticket.
"[Superdelegates] are the keepers of the faith," said former San Francisco, California, Mayor Willie Brown. "You have superdelegates because this is the Democratic Party. You don't want the bleed-over from the Green Party, the independents and others in deciding who your nominee will be."

That they keep the greens, independents and other weirdos from having a voice at the convention is just icing on Marie Antoinette's cake.
