McHate, McHitler, McKKK, McMakingTheWorldAScaryPlace

Okay, maybe those names are reactionary and overblown. Well, at least the first three.

It is fair to say that McCain/Palin's racially-charged campaign is bringing the broth of ethnic violence in the US to a boil. The GOP is actively painting Obama as having connections to terrorists, claiming he's not really a Christian, and that he wasn't born in the US. McCain could be stopping it, but he's been shamefully allowing it. The lesson of the 1960s was this: when politicians speak bigoted nonsense, those who believe that nonsense feel emboldened to violent action. When politicians of both parties unilaterally repudiate such activities, violence drops significantly. McCain knows that, and if he pretends otherwise, then he's a liar, a coward, or a bigot - and possibly all of the above.
