The Fine Line

I believe it was David St. Hubbins of Spinal Tap who said, "It's such a fine line between stupid and clever." In example...

Last year I put the call out for stickers for my toolbox at work and received one that is a favorite around the plant.
From now on we fuck things up my way.
Of course the bosses couldn't allow the display of a 'profanity' and asked me to censor my sticker. So I carefully crafted a piece of tape to cover up one letter, resulting in...
From now on we f ck things up my way.
Everyone still reads it as intended, hardly noticing the self censorship.

A co-worker, not to miss out on the precedent I set, put a sticker on his box.
I don't have an attitude problem, you're just an asshole.
And he also censored his work, though crudely, so it now reads...
I don't have an attitude problem, you're just an as ole.
Self deprecation is generally found to be funny. Just ask Woody Allen. Calling other people names is typically not as humorous.

As a free speech advocate I am happy to support the display of both stickers. They are certainly fine examples of that afore mentioned fine line.

into:

Going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than XXXXing in a garage makes you a car.

Like this? That's ok. But I really like the opposite. For an example, just listen to Shane McGowan mumble through the lyrics of every song but FUCK rings loud and clear.
