By making note of acquaintances who are in favor of Arizona's new immigration laws and those opposed, I finally found something of a common denominator; music.
All but one of the people I know who support Arizona's law are really into heavy metal. The other one really digs 70's arena rock. Jazz, classical, pop, disco, alternative, punk, ska, funk, rap, gospel, and in general all other musical categories my friends enjoy didn't make them shout out in support of a law that demands all Hispanics in Arizona, even natural born citizens, carry documentation 'just in case'. Even the country and western crowd seemed to think it a bit redneckish.
I'm not saying that heavy metal makes a person racist*. I do know heavy metal fans opposed to Arizona's new laws. So no, heavy metal is not overtly racist nor does it make a person racist. My little example just shows that if you know me and you happen to be in support of the laws, you probably also like heavy metal.
And I'm a little embarrassed to even admit having a friend who likes 70's arena rock.
Just FYI.
* It is a musical style dominated by whites. Then again, so is punk and country.

Actually some of my favorite metal bands hail from central and south america. Sepultura for one and a vast array of underground metal bands. Slayer's lead singer is from Chili. Supporting secure borders has nothing to do with race. Metal heads just have clearer thought processes.
Really, you have a 70's arena rock friend?
