George S. Patton was not only a WWII General, he was also a veteran of WWI, and an Olympic gold-medalist.
While serving in The Great War, he got shot in the butt. It was a one-in-a-million wound, an inch either way would have killed him, but his ass saved his ass.
At the risk of sounding a little gay, his ass was in mighty fine shape. Would his life have been any better saved if he'd weighed an extra 80 lbs? I think not.
Sounds to me like this Atlantic City slicker just got spooked by nearly being shot. They already had a weight problem, and the fear has caused them to fall back hard on comfort food, the same way stress at home or work does. They're conveniently claiming it's "logical" and "self-preservation" to be fat now, in case they're ever shot again. That's just a rationalization they're making to justify their morbid obesity in their own mind.
For a real shocking tale, go look at the American death rate statistics on heart attack vs homicide. We all fear walking down a dark alley at night, but not the greasy food that is at least ten times more likely to be the cause of our deaths.
That insight comes to you from a man who could stand to lose about 40 pounds.

Have they considered how much more likely they are to get hit by stray bullets because of the extra girth? Do the anorexic have an advantage when getting shot at?
