A sprinkler pipe burst in the attic, and flooded three apartments. Luckily, not mine, but my neighbor and the two apartments below his. The landlord and some plumbers came out, and it's looking like $20,000 worth of damage.
They patch the pipe, and turned on the water again. Suddenly, all the fire alarms in the building start going off. We walk the building, no signs of fire, but the alarms won't turn off.
It's freaking loud. It hurts my ears. I'd leave, I'm tempted to head out and get away from the noise, but my cats are freaking out. I'm not sure leaving them alone with this scary noise is a good thing. Last time the little one got this scared, she peed on things for more than a month.
And then, magically, as I typed these words, the noise stopped. Beautiful, serene, silence. I realize there's a tiny chance this means the building went up in seconds and I'm now dead, but it'd be worth it.
Surreal Update: A fireman, in his full getup, just knocked on my door and asked "you got any water in there?" Turns out his 'hose' was a shopvac.
