I haven't posted about rally racing for quite a while. Shit, I haven't posted anything for quite a while. Anyway, this weekend marks the start of both the World Rally Championship and Rally America seasons, but the most exciting event of the year may already be over. This year the Rallye Monte Carlo broke from the WRC and hosted the IRC, which restricts entrants to actual production based cars or non-turbo 2000cc spec-built racers. The cars may not have been as technically advanced, but the competition and the weather were both fierce. The climates on a single loop could range from mild Mediterranean to Alpine whiteouts as you can see in the highlights of Day 2 below.
However, if that interested you (or if not, never mind), then real excitement took place Friday night and into the wee hours of Saturday morning when the last two loops took the competitors from the harbor at Monaco over the treacherous Col de Turini on the French/Italian border. A full recap of the stages is not up yet, but if you have an hour and a half or so free, you can watch the video from the live coverage of the final two stages here. Also there are full videos of some earlier stages as well.
