Evidence of a One Party System

Democrats! Republicans! Do even they pretend to be anything but two sides of the same corrupt coin? Apparently not.

To understand the cause of my latest cynicism, get both of these videos playing at roughly the same time:

Not to disagree with your underlying assumption (recall, I'm registered Green: this is one reason why)... but this is clearly a pair of videos comissioned and probably scripted by You Tube to promote a particular event. I don't think it's a terribly fair comparison. ; )

But, also as a green, I think the underlying problem is less one of Dem/Rep, and more one of corporate influence. Politicians are kept alive by corporate contributions, almost exclusively. ...And few people seem to recognize this as a problem...

(Err... not to over-simplify... just to over-emphasize.)

Not only two sides of the same coin, but all using the same ad agency! Rice is right about the corporate influence even to the point that most people don't realize that the RNC and DNC are private corporations. The candidates are just their poster children.

I know it's not a fair comparison, but it was fun. :)

On the corporate contribution / influence tangent - have you checked out www.change-congress.org yet? It's Larry Lessig's crusade to free both houses from their corporate masters.

Also, if you haven't done so yet, it'd be well worth your time checking out www.politicalcompass.org (I think Knight of Pan already did so, yes?) The quiz takes like 5-10 minutes of your time to chart where you land in the political grid. Then they'll show you where various current politicians and historical figures went on the grid. It made some sense out of things that had confused and frustrated me previously. It blew my mind to see just how far off my politics is from someone like Obama, and how close his are to McCain. Well worth the time.
