That last post made me want to do some casual research: I'd heard that there was a big UFO sighting at O'Hare airport in Chicago last year, and I wanted to track down the official story.
Chicago Tribune coverage. CBS news coverage. MSNBC coverage. The Chicago Tribune story is the most detailed account of the incident in any major mainstream media source.
Here's what happened, according to the Chicago Tribune: multiple employees at United Airlines spotted a saucer-shaped object hovering over the O'Hare airport for several minutes in day light hours (though it was overcast). They reported it to the Air Traffic Control Tower and the offices of United. But when reporters tried to investigate the story, United and the FAA denied it ever happened, and claimed no one had reported this to the Tower. A later Freedom Of Information Act request forced the FAA to release that the report had happened, and that they had it documented.
In other words, less than two years ago, the FAA was lying to the American people about UFO sightings. The official response is it was "it's probably just weird weather" but since they lied about whether or not the control tower was ever called, I'm not inclined to trust them.
