The Bill that burns our Constitution is being voted on today.

Today, the House of Representatives is voting on a bill that will provide retroactive immunity to telecoms who gave your phone records (and actual recordings of your calls) to the NSA illegally, without a warrant.

To make sure we all understand:

  1. They (Verizon, AT&T, and several other telecommunication companies) have given the NSA unrestricted live tap of all phones, and phone logs even beyond what was asked for by the administration, without warrants or due process. You are being spied upon by your government and your phone company.

  2. This process started in February 2001. That's right, 7 months before 9/11, the White House asked phone companies to allow them to illegally spy on the American People, and most phone companies complied.

  3. This bill would make them immune to all future prosecution (and there's been none so far) for that.

  4. The bill also provides immunity to Bush and Cheney. If they maintain that they've done nothing that's worthy of Impeachment, why do they need a bill passed that protects them from Impeachment and prosecution?
Our very Democracy is at risk. But you can do something about it! Call the House of Representatives. Their switchboard is open now: 202-224-3121. Ask to speak to your congressman. Tell them (or their aide, as they're probably in session currently) that you feel this bill is immoral and dangerous and that you expect them to vote against it. I did so about an hour before typing this. It's not too late to save America!

I just want to add that for all the shittiness that surrounds Qwest, they did not comply with the illegal request for information. Qwest was the only company that did not compromise your personal calls and information. While I still hate their size and seeming monopoly, Qwest is till a union company that did not hand over customer information to the government. They are the only big telecom that didn't need this fucking bill passed. Them and Credo aka Working Assets which is a minor player.
