Brokered

I should ignore it. I should just turn away. But I can't.

The morning news has brought to my attention that Jenna Bush is getting married. One glance at the accompanying photo and I figure out that this has to be an arranged wedding. Not arranged in the sense that these two are being forced together without having ever met or having any say in the matter. More of a brokerage.
"So the guy comes to see me, and he says, 'I want to marry your daughter,' " Bush recalled recently. "I said, 'Done deal.' "
It never even crossed my mind to ask someone's dad for permission to marry their daughter. Fuck that shit! Lay it down... what's your name? Who are you?
Jenna is marrying Henry Hager, a 30-year-old native of Richmond, Virginia, who once worked for Karl Rove, her father's former deputy chief of staff. Hager is the son of tobacco executive John Hager, chairman of the Virginia Republican Party and a former lieutenant governor.
Gee, can't see any power brokering going on in this deal. Nope. None what so ever.

Goddamn! I'm sorry. Look away now.

A big tobacco family marrying a big oil family? I'll bet this was set up years ago. "Done deal."

Hey if Hagar became president could we call him Hagar the Horrible?
