China got it right where the United States failed. When a restaurant went smoke-free, the smoking customers deserted it. Now it may go out of business. Americans just bitch and whine. Which is one of the things we accuse the French of doing all the time because we even love to bitch and whine about those who bitch and whine. Whatever happens, we cannot let China quit smoking. Tobacco is one of the few exports we have left.

This ties in to the tv-be-gone conversation from a few days back. If people would "vote with their checkbook" and stop frequenting places that did things they didn't like (especially if told the management why they were leaving, and what they'd have to do to ever get them back) then places would shift to meet those needs. Instead, folks whine in ways that never get back to the business-owners who have the power to do something about it. Sad.
