I was checking out some old posts on a friend's blog when I found one post where he sort of debunks (or at least takes a stand against) conspiracy theory. So, since I have been intimately aware of two genuine conspiracies in my life, I thought I'd "blow some whistles" here.
#1: Small potatoes, but it involves government employees: This was at a school that I attended. They had a dormitory that you couldn't live in unless you met certain qualifications. A student that I knew, plus their parents, grandparents, and multiple employees of the state conspired to fraudulently alter details on a student's record to allow them (the student, not the whole conspiracy) to live in the dorm.
#2: A larger one, which I exposed and busted after learning it embezzled thousands of dollars from the theatre circuit that I was working for at the time: It involved a famous musician who would rent out the auditoriums late at night. He would pay $300 to $500 per showing to watch movies after business hours at a variety of different theatres. All rental fees should have gone to the corporate office, but instead, a conspiracy was in place, with managers at multiple locations never reporting it and pocketing the cash. When I brought it to the District Manager, it resulted in 6 terminations between 4 locations. Several additional managers at those and other nearby locations quit within a month of my exposing it, implying to me that the conspiracy went much further than I had realized at the time.
So when someone tells you that conspiracy theories are a bunch of bunk, that those in power aren't corrupt, and that otherwise good people don't get tangled up in secret meetings and "off the record" negotiations, DON'T BELIEVE THEM. It happens every day.

And just to make sure What Silence doesn't feel picked on: I in no way feel that he is a tool of The Conspiracy. Nor is he foolish for generally disbelieving that They control our country.
I'm not sure I'd believe it if I had seen evidence repeatedly.
I have an entire reference book dedicated just to conspiracy theory titled Everything Is Under Control. Some were just theories but others were quite real.
And I was an open and proud member of the Javacrucian Coffee Conspiracy. But I'm not any more. Nope. Nothing to do with that any more. Nor do I have anything to do with the Discordian Society or the Intergalactic Psychic Porn Syndicate.
Hadn't. HadN'T. Had not. As in:
"I'm not sure I'd believe it if I hadN'T seen evidence"
Not as unintentionally stated in my first comment. Fnord.
