I (heart) Seattle

Man, I freakin' love this City! Oh, I'm sorry, this is Repeated Expletives, after all. Let me rephrase that to match the theme of the Blog. I fucking love this city. Much better.

Sarah and I spent most of yesterday down at the Market. It's that place with flying fish and the neon sign that shows up repeatedly in any movie or tv show set in Seattle. Not as well known as the space needle, but still not exactly unheard of. Not just wandering about the Market, also the Hillclimb, the Waterfront, the Bug Safari, the parks, large swaths of the Free Ride Zone. They, like the Pike's Market, are among the cool things that make Seattle so unique.

There we were, wandering about in the maze that is the Market. We'd filled up on free samples of fresh produce and beer-jelly (we tried the red wine, sake, roasted-garlic, and sweetpepper jellies as well). Sarah was carrying an enormous bouquet of unearthly flowers that cost a mere $5. We had a pound of lime/mango/redchile pasta and some Twin Peaks honey in my satchel. Fish were being thrown in the background. We'd gotten lost twice down in the bowels of the maze already, and had made our way back up to the main floor to orient ourselves. We wandered cross the Joe Desimone bridge extension with it's daily rotating artisan booths, and out the doors onto that rickety little wooden staircase. There, we stared out onto the Sound, at a Ferry that through a trick of the fog and reflections seemed to float in the air 20 feet above the sea. You could barely notice a darkening against the fog where West Seattle is on a clear day.

And we began to cry. It's finally sunk in. We're actually here. We live here. The place we've chosen to vacation yearly for the past three years. It's home now. And we never have to wake up dead-dry from the desert again if we don't want to. God, I love this city.

If you'd like to see a few of the sights of Seattle, I recommend my friend Kevin's photoblog.
