To which I would add that the people who write those rules are not basically decent either, therefore they don't actually protect the little guy from getting screwed over.

Basically, as the little guy you are at their mercy unless you take the defensive measures of avoiding consumerism and revolving debt (...not to mention avoiding major illness and disability). The other choice to combat the pig-fuckers is to become a pig-fucker yourself either by playing their game -- brown-nosing and back-stabbing your way up the ladder; or by starting a revolution -- thus assuming the role of the pig-fuckers whom you fought to over-throw.
